The closest was the storm in Levelland, Tx that brought grapefruit sized hail like meteors falling around town and on the van. I got nervous twice that summer but the funnel cloud was either hidden in the darkness or never developed. High winds in St. Louis also moved trash dumpsters around and sounded like a train falling off a cliff.
